I work out to videos and DVDs regularly, and I have never had a DVD with the same refreshingly old-fashioned, yet well-thought-out approach as Miranda Esmonde brings to these workouts.

Her Canadian patter is just gorgeous, especially when she starts telling us how the abdominal stretching keeps her regular. These are no-nonsense workouts, but they are so graceful and fluid, and it's wonderful to have time in a DVD to really wait for the stretching to work.

It's also a tough strength workout, but I feel so stretched and relaxed, it's really unlike any other exercise routine I've tried.

One caveat is that Miranda isn't always on your back about posture well, she is, but I found myself relying on me to make sure my back was well-placed, to avoid strain. So if you're new to exercise, although this DVD is perfect for that, I would check out a Lotte Berk workout Lotte Berk Method or Bar Methodor go over Pilates' "neutral spine", first just to make sure you're clear on that.

Buy this DVD--you'll feel blissed out and I promise you'll love it!

Other than that the scenery was nice. Miranda is very peaceful to watch and gives some very good pointers on stretching, such as "Stretching is suppose to feel good. If you start hurting stop. Some people don't like this, but I do, the workout goes by better for me than in complete or almost complete silence. This is a great workout. My muscles feel much better after doing this video.

Some of the sessions are chattier than others; overall the workouts are excellent, effective, and easy to do. In just 3 weeks I've gained flexibility and lost lower back and joint pain. I will continue this program, and anticipate moving, running, and dancing until my very last day on earth.

In her introduction to the first workout, Miranda explains that the Classical Stretch method incorporates various forms of stretching, including isometric and PNF work, which, when performed regularly, will provide both both flexibility and toning benefits. The first workout is Full Body Stretch Volume 1. Miranda leads this workout against a beautiful ocean's edge setting at a Jamaican resort.

She explains that she won't waste much time teaching the moves, as she expects you to learn the sequences through repeated use of the workout. She starts with a 5-minute active warm-up which includes plenty of big arm movements, heel kicks, knee ups, and the like. She then continues with several minutes of full body, Tai Chi-inspired moves which begin the process of stretching the entire the body.

Following this, Miranda moves into her unique arm work. These simple, unweighted movements will exhaust your arm muscles, from your hands to your shoulders--the short 5 minutes sequence feels like much longer!

Miranda again leads you through a series of gentle flowing motions before starting with the plie work for the legs. This section is only about 4 minutes long, and I found it to be a bit less intensive than similar sequences on Classical Stretch Miranda Esmonde White Pokies Blog other videos. Following the plie work, however, Miranda grabs a chair and continues to work the lower body with an additional 12 minutes of barre work; I definitely felt this in my outer hips. After about 33 minutes, Miranda transitions to the floor.

The Classical Stretch web site lists this as a minute video. In actuality, it contains a main minute workout portion and then what Miranda describes as an "Extra 15 Minutes" which is actually about 17 minutes, bringing the total workout time in at 44 minutes.

The workout is filmed poolside in what appears to be Miranda's actual backyard. Some people might not like Esmonde-White's unique style; she is quite chatty throughout the entire workout, talking about everything from her daughter to her makeup. Still, I find Classical Stretch to be a good way for me to keep active on my lighter workout days as well as to provide much-needed flexibility training in a way that is fun and enjoyable.
